Day 57, 58 and 59 - Jasper National Park, Alberta

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday - August 25th, 26th and 27th

The town of Jasper was officially established in 1913 and the National Park in 1907. They are named after Jasper Hawes who ran a fur trading post in the 1800’s.

Signs around our campground warn folks to keep your distance from the Elk.

I don't think the Elk read these signs!

We took the tram up Whistler Mountain for an overall view!

Our Tram-way Greeter!

Our view of Jasper and the surrounding area from the top!!

The Golden-Mantled Ground Squirrel

It looks and acts like a chipmunk but is not related to the chipmunk family.

Steam Locomotive built in 1923.

Icefields Parkway

The towns of Jasper and Banff are each located in the middle of National Parks that bear their names.

They are connected by the 143-mile Icefields Parkway, often called the most “scenic parkway” in the world.

The Icefields Parkway was built from 1931-1939.

Today you can see more glaciers from the Parkway than from any other road in North America.

Athabasca Falls

The powerful flow of the water was amazing!
