Day 11-12 of Trip – Skagway

After hanging out in Skagway for three days,

we decided we are now officially qualified to be Tour Guides!!

We took in the one-and-only theater production that has been running for the last 85 years:

The Days of ’98 Show.

It’s all about Skagway’s notorious con-man, Jefferson “Soapy” Smith.

Now the History Lesson:

In 1925, the Princess steamships started bringing tourists to Skagway.

Local residents decided to put on a show for them

to raise money for the local hockey team’s new uniforms.

It has been running ever since only more recently with professional actors.

Soapy Smith’s original 1890’s parlor not yet restored.

The Red Onion Saloon Building.

Another former place of ill repute in the late 1890’s.

Recently one building located on this main Historic Street drag recently sold

for over 1-million dollars

– the cruise lines are buying up these prime properties.

Wouldn’t those old gold prospectors drop their jaws with that piece of news??

The Historic 1900 Railroad Building.

It is now run by the National Park Service as a Klondike Gold Rush Museum.

“Ansel Adams” Maercklein in photographic action!

A few Bunchberry’s were still in bloom.

A wildflower enthusiast I am
and no,
“I will not eat Green Eggs and Ham!”
