Day 6 - Dawson Creek, BC to Toad River, BC 404 Miles

Mile-O, start of the Alaskan Highway at Dawson Creek, BC.
The Alaskan Hwy was built in 1942 in response to the invasion of the Aleutian Islands by Japan. It was completed in 8 months 12 days - 10,000 troops worked 16-hour days/7 days a week. It is 1,390 miles long and ends at Fairbanks, Alaska - our destination.

The day's drive included a number of 6%-10% grades. All went okay.
We also missed hitting a deer and fawn, a moose and a black bear!

A number of Stone Sheep were milling around on the edge of the
Hwy totally ignoring the tourists that stopped to view them.

Peter was finally able to relax at the end of a long days drive.

This is Peter's view of the Toad River at our campsite.
Note: Our internet connection has been marginal on the trip and blogging seems to take me (Phyllis) a while even with William's excellent and patient assistance.
Don't be alarmed if the postings get spotty - especially when Wm takes off to hike the Chilkoot Pass out of Skagway in a couple of days!!
